Obituary of Jeffrey W. Ossont
Big Moose - Jeffrey W. "Foot" Ossont, of Big Moose, NY, beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, went to rest with his lord on July 23, 2018 at his home after losing a hard-fought cancer battle with his loving family by his side.
Jeff was born in Rome, NY on June 18, 1961, a son of Robert and Jean Cooper Ossont. He attended Westmoreland Central School and graduated with the class of 1980. Jeff worked on area farms as a teen, then for Mohawk Meats and also Smith Packing. Jeffery was united in marriage to Veronica A. Britton on May 8,1982 at Bartlett Baptist church in Rome. In 1983, the couple relocated to Big Moose where Jeff was the caretaker and bartender of the Big Moose Inn, meeting numerous customers from all over the world, leading to great friendships he still held dear. Jeff is known for his great personality, sense of humor, lending hands, a real “class act”, people would say. In 1993, Jeff became an employee of the Town of Webb Department of Public Works, only just retiring in June after 25 years. Jeffery has been a member of his local fire departments since age 16 and just received recognition for his 35 years of service with the Big Moose Fire Company. He was a current commissioner representing Town of Webb Fire District #1 and has been for the past 16 years. Foot was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed NASCAR, attending numerous games and races through the years. One of Foot’s greatest joys was “yachting” in North Bay on Big Moose Lake with his best friend and wife Vicki, family and friends.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Vicki of 36 years; his children, Jason of Old Forge and Jesse and her husband, Lance Hoffert of Woodgate; two cherished grandchildren, Adrienne and Triton; his parents Robert and Jean Ossont of Oriskany; his mother in law, Dorothy Britton of Rome; his siblings, Robert and Sherry Ossont of Mount Morris; Charles and Kathy Ossont of Appleton, WI; Guy and Nancy Ossont of Westmorland; David and Charlene Ossont of Carmichael, CA; Dennis Ossont of Norwich, CT; Joy and Steven Mientkiewicz of Rushford; Steven and Laura Ossont of Westmoreland; two brothers in law and sisters in law, John and Kathy Jo Britton of Rome and Kimberly and Daniel Charchian of Bossier City, LA and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and one great great niece.
