Father Shinos was a good man who cared for the residents of Herkimer and tended his flock as required. Aside from that, he befriended many in our community, whether Catholic or not. And he was generous to a fault. He did not deserve the disgrace and ill will he suffered in in the last 15 years, whenit became trendy and lucrative to accuse priests of things that happened 30-40 years ago and no one could prove. I was his alter boy from 1978 until I graduated high school. In later years, I was his go-to assistant, and took on other roles, like lecter and organist. 40 years I've known Father Shinos as nothing short of a good and honorable man. His sense of humor was beyond witty and intelligent, and I loved being in his presence. God bless you and keep you, Father.

Father Shinos - The people's priest. Loving, caring, patient, non-judgemental. A beautiful part of our entire community. He was so amazingly good to our family in good and bad times as I am sure is true for many families in our area. At the end of Mass he would make folks that had a birthday or anniversary stand up and we would applaud those people. To some that had no one to share their birthday with I am sure that meant a lot. It was little things like that which people will never forget. We will miss you but in the words of St Paul " to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" -2 Cor. 5:8, and no more pain and suffering and may God have a special place for you for a job well done.

Father Shinos will be missed by my family and my community. Father made all who knew him a member of his family. We were blessed to have our son baptized at St. Joseph's church with Father Shinos. Father's smile and hello was always with him.
Father Shinos is with God and all that have gone before him. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Father has been a giant in my life,he assisted Ronald in getting an annulment, he married us, he blessed our new home, he gave Ronald his last rites and officiated his funeral. He came to my home and gave my mother her last rites and stayed with my family for hours. He and Father Cunningham both officiated at my mom's funeral. I loved this man, he now is with God and his beloved sister Helen. Rest in peace my friend. My sympathy to all of Fathers dear friends. Sharon

As a former parishoner of both St. Joseph's Church and later Sts Anthony & Joseph, I was saddened to hear of Father Bob Shinos' passing. I wish to share my feelings of gratitude and love for this dedicated and caring priest - Throughout his service to both of these parishes, it was his genuine capacity to be a friend - he never missed an opportunity to ask about family members and then always paused to listen to a reply. He knew how to make friends and keep them....forever.
At the end of a man's life, it is our duty reflect on all the Blessing that he gave....
and for the communities of St. Joseph's and Sts. Anthony & Joseph....his Blessings were many.
Fr. Shinos has carried a heavy cross these last few years with his health in decline
but always did so with a sense of hope and trust in Jesus - his death is sad for us
but life for Father Shino hasn't ended - it has only changed. I believe now that he will be at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Father Bob, may you now rest in peace. O God, listen favorably to our
prayers offered on behalf of your servant and priest, who committed himself
zealously to the service of your name, may now rejoice for ever in the company of
your saints. We ask this through Christ our Lord - Amen.
