Herkimer - Mrs. Lucy V. Carbone, 76, of 211 Protection Ave passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Herkimer on March 30, 1934, the daughter of the late Vito and Mary Teso Losito where she attended Herkimer Schools. She married Richard Carbone on June 6, 1953 in St. Anthony's Church. Lucy was at one time employed by General Electric and later for MDS, Herkimer for many years. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. She was a member of PTA, Central Yard and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4915 Aux. Lucy loved to dabble in politics and was a former member and Chairwoman of the Republican Committee. She was a devoted wife, sister, caring mother and a loving "NaNa". Her whole world centered around her family especially her grandchildren whom she adored wholeheartedly. She loved to cook and bake for her family and others, spending much of her time in the kitchen. She was creative in many ways especially in crotchet, with a gift of making her own designs for family and friends. She was a very fun and vibrant woman, and she always laughed and smiled. She will always be remembered for her generosity and big heart. Thoughts of Lucy from the eyes of her grandchildren: There are only two words that describe greatness and they are "LUCY CARBONE", a caring loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She always new the right thing to say which put a smile on your face. There wasn't a day that went by that someone didn't walk out of her house smiling. She was a true role model and walked this earth with grace and beauty. NaNa was a very honest women and never stopped caring about others. Wherever someone was in need of help, NaNa always gave a helping hand. If you really stared into her beautiful eyes, you would know that this women was extraordinary. She was like an angel, but living on earth. There will always be a place in our hearts for Lucy Carbone "NaNa" and she will be greatly missed. God needed a new friend in heaven, and Lucy Carbone "NaNa" will make a great one. Lucy is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Carbone; three sons & two daughters in law, Anthony & Barbara Carbone of New York City, Vito & Beth Carbone of Herkimer and Santo Carbone of Clearwater, FL; two brothers & sisters in law, Vito & Mary Losito and Rocco & Josephine Losito all of Herkimer; her cherished grandchildren, Richard, Lindsay, Vito, Nicole, Krystal and Jessica; and her in laws, Rocco & Betty Carbone, Salvatore & Hope Carbone and Rose Vittore; her beloved Golden Retriever, Buddy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Cucchiara, Kate Cushman and Mary Muto and one brother, Nick Losito. Her funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the VFW Aux. will meet Monday evening at 6:15 at the funeral home for services. Lucy's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center's ICU and 3rd floor unit and everyone at the Folts Home for all of their wonderful care and kindness shown to Lucy during her stay and passing. Lucy love to dabble in politics and was a former member and Chairwoman of the Republican Committee. She adored her family and loved to cook and crochet for them and others. She will be remembered for having a big heart who loved children and was involved in the PTA and Central Yard for many years.
