Obituary of Frank "Hunt" Oriole

Frankfort - Franklin Lakes, NJ - Mr. Frank "Hunt" Oriole, 88, of 5 Courter Rd, Franklin Lakes, formerly of Frankfort passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 with his family by his side. He was born in Ephrata on June 7, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Mamie Sylvester Oriolo. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. Hunt served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on November 27, 1945. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart for injuries received on October 23, 1944. He was married to Bella Merle on August 21, 1948 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Bella passed away on March 20, 1972. Mr. Oriole was the Sales Manager for Service Liquor Distributors in Liverpool for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #518, Ilion. Hunt spent his retirement years in Sebring, Florida where many of his days were spent on the golf course. He loved parties and was blessed with many wonderful friends. He moved back to Frankfort from Sebring after taking ill and later moved to New Jersey to be near his daughter. He missed his friends in Frankfort and talked to them often from New Jersey. While in Frankfort, Hunt passed the time playing poker with friends and visiting with family. He found poker games in New Jersey and spent many an afternoon in the community room playing with his new friends. Frank was an avid Yankees fan and loved the Florida sunshine. Hunt would often be working in his yard pruning his prized orange tree. He had an uncanny sense of humor and always made people laugh, often unknowingly. His personality just drew people to him, both old friends and strangers. He loved life and lived a fulfilled and happy one. He was such a big part of his children's lives as he was both mother and father to them for many, many years after his beloved wife, Bella passed. There was no better father in the world as he lived his life for his family. Frank is survived by one daughter and son in law, Karen and Kurt Brown of Wanague, NJ; one son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Anna Jean Oriole of Richmond, VA; two sisters and one brother in law, Eleanor Kinney of Frankfort and Agnes and Don Marrone of FL; one brother and sister in law, Dominick and Marie Oriolo of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Mike Salay and Kenneth Oriole all of Richmond, VA; one great grandson, Maddox Salay; his in laws, Mamie Oriolo of Frankfort and Dominick and Susan Merle of Canada and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Gabriella Oriole on May 26, 1991 and three brothers, Joseph Oriolo, Nick Oriolo and Alex Oriole. His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Barrett and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
