Herkimer - Mr. Salvatore A. Rando,75, of 102 W. Steele St passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born in Herkimer on February 27, 1933, the son of the late Salvatore M. and Antoinette Surace Rando. He attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1950. He served with the US Army during Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on December 24, 1954 with the rank of Corporal. He later attended and graduated from Oswego State Teachers Collage with his BS degree in Industrial Arts. Salvatore received his Masters Degree in School Administration from Albany State University. Salvatore was a Guidance Counselor for Mechanicville Central School, Mechanicville, NY for over 26 years of dedicated service to the students before returning to his hometown. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mechanicville and the NYS Retired Teachers Association. He was an avid skier and a member of the GE Ski Club. Sal was a diehard NY Yankees and Syracuse Orangeman fan. He enjoyed spending summers at his camp on Canadarago Lake. Salvatore is survived by two brothers, George Rando and John Rando both of Herkimer; two sisters & brothers in law, Angela & Charles Piscitello of Palm Coast, FL and Adeline & John Gorea of Frankfort; his nephew and nieces and their families, Jack & his wife, Lynnette Tresoline and Alexandria & AJ, Patty Tresoline & Ashley of Springfield, MA, Karin & her husband Steve Zipko & Michael & Jamie and Sheri Ferdula & Jake all of Frankfort and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his nephew, Anthony Tresoline Jr on August 11, 2006 His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 am in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S Main St., Herkimer where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Salvatore's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502-5949. Envelopes will be available at the vestibule of the church on Saturday morning. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, Herkimer.
