Ilion - Mrs. Virginia G. Mattison, 71, of 34 Spruce St. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 26, 2014 in Little Falls Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in Ilion on January 27, 1943, the daughter of the late Fred and Marion Turner Slocum and she attended Ilion schools. She was married to Craig Mattison on September 3, 1988 in Herkimer. Ginger was a Day Care Provider, serving as Owner and Operator of Ginger's Day Care in Ilion for many years until her retirement in 2004. She was also at one time employed by Union Fork & Hoe Co. in Frankfort and General Electric in Utica. She was of the Methodist faith. Ginger was kind, sweet and generous. She had a great love for gardening and flowers which she inherited from her mother. She loved her family and was loved by everyone in return.
Ginger is survived by her beloved husband, Craig Mattison; one son and daughter in law, Rodney Broadbent, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Little Falls; one daughter and son in law, Sandra and Jasper Ham of Mohawk; her beloved grandchildren, Justin and Catherine Bowman, Samantha Broadbent and her fiancé, Charles Jodway, Jennifer Ham, Christina Ham, Mallory Bladek and her fiancé, Jeremy Jahntz, Crystal Jasewicz and Rhonda Siver; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers in law, Marilyn Slocum of Utica, Doris and Michael Romano of Oneida, Mark Mattison of Ilion and Gary Mattison of Whitesboro; two brothers and sisters in law, Lee and Karen Slocum of Kast Bridge and John and Sarah Slocum of Newport.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 8th at 4:00 PM in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Calling hours will be Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until the time of services.
