Obituary of Joyce M. Scanlon

Herkimer - Mrs. Joyce M. Scanlon, 85, of 105 Protection Ave. formerly of Bellinger St. passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 in Mohawk Valley Health Care Center with her family by her side. She was born in Herkimer on April 16, 1929, the daughter of the late Rene and Pearl Scanlon Frechette and she attended Herkimer and Tupper Lake schools. She was married to William Scanlon on June 30, 1947 in St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake. Bill passed away on February 28, 1998. Joyce was the Cook at Herkimer County Home for the Aged until her retirement in 1987. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a life member and Past President of V.F.W Post #4915, Herkimer, Past President and member of V.F.W. District 4 and Past President and member of Herkimer County Council V.F.W. Joyce is survived by her son and daughter in law, Michael and Rose Scanlon of Utica; her grandchildren, Kenneth Scanlon and his wife, Angel, Shawn Scanlon and his wife, Koren, James Ted Scanlon and his wife, Kristen, Carey Scanlon, Michael Scanlon Jr, Cory Scanlon and his wife, Katie and Rita and her husband, Keith Froebe; eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one son, William Scanlon, Jr. on May 5, 1990 and one sister, Ethel Hysack on January 16, 2011. Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St. Herkimer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terrance Healy, Assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Joyce's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her close friends for always being there for her and to the nurses and staff of Mohawk Valley Health Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing.
