Please share a memory of Juliann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Herkimer - Mrs. Juliann K. Maida, 73, of 317 E. German St. passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Valley Health Services with her family by her side.
She was born in Ilion on March 13, 1941, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Brady Keiffer. She attended West Canada Schools and graduated from West Canada High School with the class of 1959 as the Salutatorian. She later attended and graduated from Nazareth College in 1963 with her Bachelors of Science degree as a Registered Nurse. She was married to August Maida on October 26, 1963 in St. John's Church, Newport.
Julie was employed as an RN at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Herkimer Hospital, Ilion Hospital and at Herkimer County Public Health. She was later a Clinical Instructor at Herkimer County BOCES until her retirement in 2006. Being an RN was Julie's calling in life. She loved being a nurse and aiding those who were sick. This continued on as she trained future nurses to carry on the tradition of giving of yourself and helping others. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church in Herkimer. Julie loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her favorite times were spent baking for them and she will always be remembered for her special notes she would add on cards she sent out.
Juliann is survived by her beloved husband, August Maida; one son, Michael Maida of Danbury, CT; four daughters and sons in law, Josephine and David Anthony of Lafayette, Mary Ellen and David Burstein of W. Simsbury, CT, Monica and Daniel Stowell of Holland Patent and Kathleen and Michael Carney of Herkimer; one brother and sister in law, William and Joan Keiffer of Newport; one sister, Donna Hallett of Ft. Myers, FL; her fifteen beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Zachary, Gianna, Sarah, Emily, Benjamin, Andrea, Andrew, Adam, Caley, Peter, Erin, Joseph, Kyle and Katelyn; her in laws, Vito Sciortino and Dolores Scalise and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terrance Healy and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 4-8 pm at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
