Mohawk - Rome - Mr. James J. Keeley, 88, formerly of Greenwood Terrace, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 in the Rome Center where he has resided for over 4 years.
He was born in Lockport on February 6, 1926, the son of the late Frederick Joseph and Mary Anne (Queenie) Daly Keeley and he graduated from North Tonawanda High School with the class of 1944. He was married to his adoring wife, Phyllis Papa Loiacono on June 22, 1974 in Frankfort United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army from 1944 until his Honorable discharge in 1946 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following the war, Jim served during the Nuremburg Trials. He went on to attend Canisius College where he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Math with the class of 1951. Jim held many positions, mostly management positions, at Standard Desk in Herkimer and later as the Warehouse Manager for Herkimer Wholesale in Utica for many years until his retirement in February of 1988. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica where he served as a lector and was a trustee for the Frankfort United Methodist Church.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Keeley; two daughters and one son in law, Susan Keeley of Pacifica, CA and Jane Keeley and her husband, James Perkins of Laytonville, CA; his step children, Kenneth and his wife, Susan Loiacono of E. Greenbush, Beverly and her husband, Randy Miller of Canandaigua and David and Deborah Loiacono of Camden; two sisters, Mary Freerick of Bellingham, MA and Anne Harmon of Tonawanda and six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort with the Rev. Paul Catena, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak View Cemetery with full Military Honors. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort. There will be no public calling hours.
