Burlington Flats - Herkimer - Mrs. Edith Grace Lachut, 92, of Angel Hill Rd. passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Bassett Health Care.
She was born in Stamford, NY on April 10, 1921, the daughter of the late Karl and Agnus Bankus Golon and she attended school in Stamford. After graduation, she moved to New York City where she attended and graduated from King's County School of Nursing in 1945. Her nursing career began soon after at MIB Hospital in Cooperstown and continued for another 35 years until her retirement. She was married to Edward Lachut on in 1972 in Fly Creek. Edward passed away on November 4, 2012.
Edith had several hobbies; she loved crafts, gardening, sewing, reading and dancing. Many beds and cribs have been covered by her beautiful afghans. She also was very active in her faith and loved the Lord.
Edith is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Daniels of Dryden, NY and Catherine Crist of Burlington Flats, NY; her step-children, Robert and Christine Lachut of Star Lake and Barbara LaBratee of FL; six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Mickey Pupecki in 2005 and by six siblings.
Edith's family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Otsego Manor, Serenity Place who enriched her life over the past year. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of her family.
