Frankfort - Mr. Otto Thuener, Jr., 83, of S. Litchfield St. passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Scotia on June 18, 1930, the son of the late Otto and Esther Kastensmith Thuener, Sr. He attended Scotia High School and graduated with the class of 1948. Upon graduation, Otto entered into an apprenticeship with GE where he received his training in engineering. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was married to Margaret "Peggy" Mower on November 7, 1982 in East Schuyler United Methodist Church. He traveled the world troubleshooting the earliest computers while employed with UNIVAC in the 50's and 60's. He also worked for MDS in Herkimer for 20 years. He was a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439 in Herkimer and was of the Methodist Faith. Otto enjoyed sharing his great love of boating with his family and friends.
Otto is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" Thuener; two daughters, Linda Peters of New Hartford and Cathleen McElroy of Lake Placid, FL; one son, David Thuener of Mohawk; two step daughters, Sandra Cambridge of Little Falls and Cindy Dupont of Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Shirley Billings of VT; one brother, Bruce Thuener of NJ; his first wife, Susan Harris Thuener and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Thuener in 1982, his step son, James K. "Jake" Jacobs, Jr. in 2009, his step daughter, Laura Jacobs in 2010 and his sister, Phyllis Retersdorf in 2013.
Calling hours will be Monday evening from 4-6 PM, prior to services. His funeral will be held Monday evening at 6:00 PM at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave. Frankfort, where a funeral service will be celebrated by the Rev. Robert Wollaber. Spring interment will be in West Schuyler Cemetery.
Otto's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth's ICU for the kindness and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Otto's memory may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 36 Second St, Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
