Jim was fondly remembered at a recent reunion of the Herkimer High School class of 1946. (August 27, 2014). He added fun and sparkle and enthusiasm to our class and at our reunions. His gifts of roses are cherished.

Aunt Sue, Uncle Randy, Cousins Corey and Erin, I am sorry for your loss, I will never forget Mr, Shearer! I will miss his warm smile and twinkling eyes, his stories about how he developed fertilizer for his beautiful roses, and most of all his jokes, I never got tired of them even though I heard the same ones each time I saw him! He was a great guy, and now he is a wonderful spirit with our Father! We love you all, Jason and Heather, Daniel and Aine Gray

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing someone in death is never easy to deal with. But if we go to the Bible, we can find the needed comfort. Isaiah 25:8 says that Jehovah will eliminate death forever. Acts 24:15 tells us that the dead will be resurrected. We will all get a chance to see our dead dead loved ones again right here on the earth. That is truly wonderful! I hope that these scriptures can be a source of comfort to all in grief.

To the family of Jim:
I am so sorry for your loss. I think of him every time I look at the roses in my garden.
Some of the fondest memories of Jim come from attending the Cornell Cooperative Extension meetings in Orange County when we were both members of the Board. Not only did we learn about roses but also about Parlimentary procedures and he made sure we followed them! He was a wonderful person with a big heart and he did enjoy life and could make people smile. He will be missed but the memories will last forever.
Sincerely, Pat Reineke

RIP Mr. Shearer. Everything I know about roses I learned from Mr.Shearer. He often visited Lloyd's Garden Center in Middletown, NY back in the 1970's while I was learning the business. All of us in the department learned something new from each of his visits. I still have my "stick-on-rose" on my name tag from Lloyd's. When my husband attended a meeting in Rochester, I took a drive to Newark to see the J&P rose gardens. After working in Garden Center retail off and on for 43 years, the most knowledgeable and nicest person i ever met was Mr. Shearer. Thanks for the memories, Bethann"Buffy" Illobre, Middletown, NY

Dear Susan, Randy, Corey & Erin and Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Susan's father.
Although I did not know Jim "Rosie" (from the rose fertilizer invention, etc.?) personally, it is obvious from the obituary notice that he was a remarkable individual who quite literally enhanced the beauty of the world in which we live. Although now departed from our midst, his life and accomplishments will continue to inspire all those he touched along the way.
It is hoped that the memory of happy, shared times together will provide a measure of comfort during this difficult period.
Warm regards,
Bob Redmond

RIP Mr. Jim "ROSIE" Shearer...I have been thinking about you all week. I am happy you were surrounded by your family ...no more pain for you! You taught me all I need to know about roses....now if I could just keep the inside plants alive lol! In the spring I will be making a rose garden as a tribute to you. When you left the neighborhood...it was such a big adjustment for everyone. I still consider the house across the street yours. I have so many fond memories of pool parties in your back yard, you included me in your family, your daughter taught me how to swim. Camp was always so cool. I appreciate all the talks we had through the years and the help you gave my parents. You were a good friend to my mom after dad died...and thanks for visiting her at the nursing home...even though you had your own problems...you always made time for mom when you were in town. I will miss you, your beautiful rose stickers and jokes most of all. So happy that I was able to see you at your 85th birthday party. I have known you my entire life, and was honored to call you my friend, and 2nd dad! When you get to heaven say hello to my dad and Vicky too! Sending prayers to the Shearer family! XOXO~Dawn Heroy
