Herkimer - Mr. Guiseppe Stagliano, 100, of 227 Dewey Ave. passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the comfort of his home with his beloved children by his side.
He was born in Chiaravalle c. Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy on September 12, 1912, the son of the late Guiseppe and Maria Gulli Stagliano and he attended schools in Italy. He was married to Maria Caterina Cortese on December 19, 1936 in Italy. He served in the Army during World War II where he was a Prisoner of War. In 1961, he and his family immigrated to America from Italy. Guiseppe worked as a Machinist for Remington Arms in Ilion for many years until his retirement in 1978. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church in Herkimer. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Guiseppe is survived by his wife, Maria Caterina Stagliano; one son and daughter in law, Mario and Sondra Stagliano of Herkimer; three daughters and sons in law, Maria and Antonio Sontoro of Herkimer, Julia and Guiseppe Manno of Herkimer and Catherine and Vincent Marchese of Little Falls; his twelve beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph and Pam, Melissa and Steve, Michelle and Michael, Marla and Tricia, Sylvanna, Frank and Patty, Joann and Ted, Dominick and Mary, Tina and Mike, Joseph, Salvi and Wendy and Mariella and Tim; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Nicola Stagliano and five sisters.
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 11:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9 AM until the time of services at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
