Frankfort - SGT Licari will be returning home on Friday, August 2, 2013 to Albany Airport. The procession will proceed to Frankfort at approximately 6:00 pm to arrive in Frankfort at 8:00 pm. Obituary SGT Dominick J. Licari Frankfort - The remains of SGT Dominick J. Licari, 31, formerly of East Main St. have been repatriated by the US Casualty Recovery Team in New Guinea. SGT Licari was killed in action on Monday, March 13, 1944 while serving with the US Army Air Corps, 312th Bombardment Group, 389th Bombardment Squadron in New Guinea. He and his Pilot 2nd Lt. Valerie L. Pollard and their aircraft were lost during a mission fighting the Japanese. He was born in Frankfort on October 18, 1912, the son of the late Samuel and Rosalie Barbino Licari. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. While he was in school he played the trumpet in local bands, the school band and the Frankfort Kiwanis Club Band. Prior to his enlistment in the service, he was a local carpenter throughout the valley. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Sgt. Licari was inducted into the US Army on April 22, 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Upton, Camp Wheeler, Fort Meade, Fort Jackson and Columbia Air Base. Following his training, he was presented his wings and promoted to Gunner. In November of 1943, he was sent overseas where he was a gunner aboard a Mitchell Bomber and later on an A-20 Attack Bomber. Dominick is survived by one sister, Katherine Frank of Darien, CT; one brother, August Licari of Summerfield, FL; his nieces and nephews, Georgianna Lisandrelli and son Pat, Joseph and Cathy Licari, Linda Rinaldi, Robert Licari, Patricia Licari, Jo Marie and Ruwe Halsey, Gerry and Jack Peckham, Ricci Capirci, David Licari, Dana and Thomas Erni, Dawn and Don Steinberg and Anthony Stillittano and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers and sisters in law, John and Eleanor Licari, Sam and Janet Licari and Frank Licari, three sisters and brothers in law, Mary and Joseph Cosamano, Anna and Dominick Dee and Josephine and Rocco Capirci; his brother in law, Frank Frank; his sister in law, Betty Licari; two nieces, Rose Marie Stillittano and Rosalie Ann Frank and nephew, Frank Frank. His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded by the US Army. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the VFW will meet Monday evening at 6:00 pm and The American Legion at 6:30 pm at the funeral home for services.
