Mr. Donald L. Gross
Frankfort - Mr. Donald L. Gross, 75, of 2873 Welshbush Rd., passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 in his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on August 2, 1937, the son of the late Lloyd H. and Alice Newlove Gross. He attended Utica schools and graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School with the class of 1955. Don later attended MVCC and received a BS degree in Economics and Business Administration from Syracuse University at Utica College. He served with the NYS National Guard with the 105th MP Unit in Ft. Benning, GA during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was married to Arlene Haman on September 16, 1961 in St. Frances De Sales Church in Utica. Donald was employed as the Manager of Calibration and Test Equipment Engineering for the General Electric Company in Utica, for over 37 years until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, he was employed part-time with J-Kay Lumber Company for many years. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Agnes Parish in Utica. Mr. Gross was a member of the Oneida-Herkimer County Solid Waste Authority serving as Chairman, the GE's Elfun Society, the Frankfort Kiwanis serving as treasurer, a member of the board for Frankfort Schuyler Central School, and President and Sexton of the Frankfort Center Cemetery Association.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene Gross; one son and daughter in law, Michael and Monica Gross of Port St. Lucie, FL; two daughters and sons in law, Katherine and Joseph Long of Frankfort and Karen and Albert Casab of Utica; his step sister and brother in law, Bobbie and Sherwood Berthold of Utica; his brother in law and sister in law, Douglas and Judy Haman of Frankfort; five cherished grandchildren to whose respective life's successes and happiness he dedicated his energies and efforts, Daniel Long, Jordan Gross, Joshua Gross, Nicole Casab and Michelle Casab; a special nephew and special niece, Doug Haman, Jr. and Theresa Gauthier and several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as good friends and neighbors too numerous to list but never forgotten. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Jennie Gross, his stepfather, Karl Guarigla and his close friends, Jerry Crimmins and Chuck Brucker.
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 from V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 10:00 in St. Anthony of Padua and St. Agnes Church, Utica, where a Mass of
Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Mark P. Kaminski and assisted by Deacon William R. Dischiavo. Interment will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 28th from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don's memory may be made to the Frankfort Kiwanis Club's Don Gross Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Don's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Butala and Dr. El-Amir and their staff for the wonderful care shown to him during his illness and passing.
