Mrs. Betty J. Vanderbilt
Ilion – Mrs. Betty J. Vanderbilt, 91, formerly of Otsego St., Ilion passed away, Monday, April 16, 2018 after a 25 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
She was born in Perryville, New York on February 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Harold G. and Ruth Cox Smith. She attended Canastota School and later attended and graduated from Frankfort High School with the class of 1946. She was at one time married to Donald P. French. She was later married to Curtis Vanderbilt on September 14, 1963 in Leonardsville Methodist Church. Curtis passed away on May 10, 1991. Betty was employed as a Group Leader in the Wire Section for General Electric, Broad St. plant until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Ilion United Methodist Church, GE Retirees, 25 Year Club of GE and the Tuesday Morning Coffee Bowling League in Ilion. Betty greatly enjoyed family visits on a regular basis during her extended stay in the nursing home. Especially Kathy, Kim and Carol’s weekly visits were greatly appreciated. Although Niece and Nephew Kathy and Kim Marlowe were not her children, she loved them as such. Mom was blessed to have wonderful neighbors for all her years residing on Otsego St. Jack and Jane Forbes and Karen and Bill Drumm were always there for her, proving friends can become family.
Betty is survived by three sons and one daughter in law, Charlie French of Rochester, Jeffrey and his wife, Gina French of Ilion and Thomas Vanderbilt of Florida; two twin sisters, Nancy Ebersold and Carol Rex; her sister in law, Rose Smith; four grandchildren, Aimee and her husband, David Shortino, Kristen French and fiancé Bill Burley, Justin French and Courtney and her husband, Sgt. Christopher Kendall US Army and six great grandchildren, Paulie, Anthony, Nina, Gianna, Juliana and Kaylee and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved Daughter Cynthia K. French at the tender age of 18 months; her brothers, Curtis Smith, Hollis Smith and Wallace Smith and one sister, Muriel Lasher.
Her funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave., Frankfort with Chaplain Ken Palmer, officiant. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours will be Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the V.J.Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
