Mrs. Josephine “Jopa” Palmieri
Frankfort – Mrs. Josephine “Jopa” Palmieri, 95, of Frankfort, passed away, Friday, November 2, 2018 in The Grand, Ilion with her family by her side.
She was born in Frankfort on March 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Micciche Galvano. She attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. She later attended Utica School of Commerce. She was married to Leon Palmieri on June 26, 1948 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Leon passed away on December 3, 1983. Jopa was an assembler for GE, Utica, until her retirement in 1968. She later was employed as a clerk for Nichols Department Store for many years and later as a Key Punch Operator for DTI, Ilion. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, a member of the Friends of the Library, the Red Hat Society and a former member of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens. She was an avid reader and loved to knit, crochet and go to the Turning Stone and Atlantic City.
Jopa is survived by her beloved daughter and son in law, Marilyn and Bruce Davis of Frankfort; her cherished granddaughter, Marissa Davis; a very special nephew, Angelo Candela and his family, Noah and his wife, Carolyn Candela and Amrita and her husband, Cory Beal and their children who considered Jopa their grandmother, Tobias, Cole and Cecilia; she had a special affection to Rebecca Wright and Matthew Davis; her in laws, Janet and Bill Palmieri, Toni Palmieri, Jenny Palmieri and Joe and Rosemary Palmieri and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, Frank Galvano; six sisters, Mary Candela, Rose Rolchigo, Theresa Mannino, Maryann Mazola, Florence Frank, and Susan Galvano and her nephew, Christopher Candela.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:45 from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Avenue, Frankfort and at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena, pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday afternoon from 1-5 PM in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
