I met Lee (or Gareld as I knew him) my senior year of college in Geneseo. He moved onto my floor and from the getgo, we were fast friends. One of the kindest, most genuine people I knew. After graduation, I stayed in Geneseo for an extra year. Myself, Lee and the rest of our friends continued to have a blast, getting together for barbecues, parties, etc.
After that, life happened and, even though we never saw each other in person again, we would constantly communicate through Facebook.
He was truly one of a kind.

Gareld was a member of the Margaret St. gang. We used to have so much fun playing manhunt or just sitting on the porch talking. He was always making us laugh. You’ll be missed by everyone that knew you. Rest In Peace my sweet friend.

Gareld had an amazing sense of humor. No matter how you felt when you were with him you always left with a smile on you face. I am blessed to have grown up in the neighborhood with Gareld.

Lee and I met at a party in 1995. He hadn't been in Atlanta for long, but once we met, our fate was sealed, and for 25 years it was my honor and privilege to have Lee as a best friend. I was a girl from Long Island without a single Italian friend in Atlanta and Lee fit the bill perfectly. For years, we had Sunday night dinner together, mostly at Italian restaurants where we could both have a taste of home. Whenever Gareld Sr or Cher came to town, Lee was sure to cook us a fantastic meal and we sat around and laughed for hours. It meant so much to him to celebrate his family and friends.
When I met Lee, he was new to the business world and I was a recruiter. It wasn't hard to tell he was a superstar. But, as successful as he was with his career, it was just a slice of his magnificence. Lee was a loving soul with a heart of gold. Wise beyond his years, and generous beyond anyone's expectations. To really know Lee, you knew how much his family and friends meant to him. Although he only occasionally talked about work, he would speak endlessly about his life growing up in Herkimer, his friends, his large and expansive family, the grandparents, the uncles, the aunts, the cousins, his Carm Ella, his Cher, his Dad, Gareld, Sr., his Mom. They were colorful stories always told with the greatest of warmth, love, and good humor.
I never had the good fortune to meet Patricia, his mom, but can tell you she was his heartbeat. Lee was never at a loss for words to tell you how much his mom meant to him. To all who knew and loved Lee, even though our hearts are heavy now, I know without question that he would not want us to be sad. So, let the memories flow and let our hearts feel the warmth of his love and let happy memories bring back our smiles. To Gareld Sr., there wasn't a phone call I had with Lee where he didn't speak of you. You were a Giant to him, a tower of strength and a beacon of hope. Whenever I needed advice, Lee would start by saying, "Well, you know what my dad would say". To Cher, you were his rock, his mirror, his soul. To Carm Ella, I know your off the wall Facebook posts to each were a love language that only the two of you understood. To MaryEllen, thank you for making him feel so loved when he moved to Charlotte.
There will never be another Lee in my life. He has moved on and now is an Angel to us all. Rest Well, my dear friend. I still hear your voice. I still feel your love. Thank you for the blessing you are to me, to your family, your friends, your co-workers, your community. Thank you for being a superstar and the most lovely friend a girl could ask for.

Lee was a beautiful soul and made a positive impact in so many lives. He forever changed my life and I am so thankful for the blessing of his friendship. I got to co-author a book with Lee; it was a labor of love with Amanda and Jean Marie that brought the four us together like a family, forever connected. Lee is dancing in heaven with his Mom now, so rest in peace, Lee, until we meet again.

One of my original Footlighters when I came to HHS in ‘83. A talented, hard working, fun-loving guy who had to correct my pronunciation of his first name. I never had a ‘Gareld’ before or since. I’ll remember our plays, the fun we had and his comic timing. It was people like Lee who made my job easy! A true thespian! I’ll remember him always with great fondness! My condolences to his friends and family.

To the family and many friends who are sharing in your loss, “Wee Wee” is going to be surely missed! He was a special person who was funny, full of personality and love, meticulous, infectious, smart, handsome and loving! I spent a lot of my childhood with him, me and Carmella playing in the doll house, dancing and singing! As we grew up together, I remember my first homecoming, Lee asked me to be his date, we danced the night away and had the best time! I will choose to remember these and so many fun times shared with him! If u knew him, he missed His mom, Patty and always shared wonderful stories of her! I’m sure she welcomed him home and he is at peace with her and that comforts me! Thank you Lee for being a wonderful part of my life and for the laughter we shared over the years! Till we meet again my friend, watch over your family and Rest In Peace! You were loved! ❤️
