Obituary of Bonnie Dee Wicks
Bonnie Dee Wicks
Frankfort – Bonnie Dee Wicks, 76, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 3, 2021. She was born on Long Island the daughter of the late Francis and Edith Wicks. Graduating with a Master of Science Degree in Art Education, Bonnie spent most of her teaching career as the art teacher for Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District. As an educator, Bonnie believed art education was not a separate entity in itself in itself but belonged to life as a whole. She loved being a teacher and taught art so that it related to and integrated with other school subjects. She delighted in designing sets for the operettas and high school musicals and making the scenery come to life with her students. Bigger was always better and her students enthusiastically helped her create a 7 foot paper mache’ Santa, a huge turkey or a patriotic eagle that encompassed the entire school lobby. A gifted artist in many mediums, Bonnie enjoyed painting, crafts and needlework. She pursued the study of genealogy and was an avid reader. A resident of Frankfort for 50 years, Bonnie was Regent of Colonel Marcius Willet-Mohawk Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and a member of the Fortnightly Club. She was also President of the Mohawk Valley Garden Club and a member of the Minnowbrook Garden Club and judged the flower contest at the Herkimer County Fair. Bonnie’s church family is the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Surviving is a brother and sister in law, Guy and Ruth Wicks, two nieces and four grandnieces.
