Frankfort - Mr. Joseph L. Papa, Sr., 94, formerly of Tisdale Ave. passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
He was born in Brooklyn on January 2, 1919, the son of the late Fred and Raphaela Papa and he attended Frankfort schools. He was married to Mary T. Green on October 27, 1944 in St. Mary's Church. Mary passed away on May 31, 1998. Joe was the owner and operator of Papa's Mobil, Main St. Frankfort for many years until his retirement in 1990. He was also employed by Frankfort Schuyler Central School District for over 30 years as a custodian at the High School and a bus driver for the school system and later for Ryder Bus. He will always be remembered with a smile by the kids in school and on the bus. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church.
Joe is survived by his beloved son, Joseph Papa, Jr. of Mohawk and his companion, Gloria Cioch; his granddaughter, Michele and her husband, Dominick Bianchi; two great grandsons, Dominick Joseph Bianchi and Tanner Bianchi; his brother in law and sister in law, Dominick and Mary Green of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister and brother in law, Ann and Larry Seccafico; three brothers and two sisters in law, Michael and Margaret Papa, Dominick Papa and Anthony and Genevieve Papa; six brothers in law, Frank Green, Philip Green, Joseph Green, James Green, George Green and Russell Green.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 at V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
