Robin -
Thinking of you and your family with sympathy in the recent passing of your dear mother. Following retirement from my full-time job, I elected to work 2 days weekly for Presbyterian Home as a personal care aide. Your mom was my very first client, and looking back, she was my favorite. She was so independent in many ways, sharp, totally "with it"; we discussed all sorts of things as I worked. Some conversation naturally dealt with food - I still have her handwritten instructions for roasted cauliflower, and she gave me good tips that I use to this day for making sausage bread. Most memorable of all was her love for family and her joy and pride in your and Sam's accomplishments and careers. I was delighted to celebrate Liz's 80th birthday with you and others at the event you held to honor her; we kept in touch for several years after I stopped working but unfortunately lost contact. My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimers in April 2010 which ended that little job. Thankfully I was able to care for him at home until he passed away November 2021. I hope your mom was able to enjoy life in those later years. The love and assistance you gave her surely contributed to her well being and happiness while I had the pleasure to know her.
Sincerely, Janice Grunenwald

Liz reminded us to live each day with love and instill hope in the lives of children, even the ones she never met. During her many years of volunteering at The House of the Good Shepherd, she demonstrated those beliefs and made it possible for thousands of children to receive the holiday gifts they always wished for. She knew if you put light in a child’s heart you made a better world. She did that for children and all of us who were fortunate to know her.
