Helen R. (Maine) Gardner
1939-2023
Mohawk- Helen R. Gardner, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 28, 1939 in Rome, NY, the daughter of the late Wes and Gertrude (Brown) Maine. Helen graduated from Madison High School and shorlty after started her family. From working in the kitchen at the family restaurant, Henry’s Steak House, to being a healthcare aide in Herkimer Hospital. Helen had a vast working career helping people in home healthcare and was many things to a lot of people, but the most important role for Helen was being “Mom”. On May 12th, 1969, Helen married Edward Gardner and had a blessed union of 54 years.
She is survived by her loving husband Edward,children, Louis (Sonia) Ruggerio Jr, Pam (John) Cancelino, Debra (Thomas) Donahue, Sheila (Scot) Burke, and Edward (Angela Agne) Gardner. Grandchildren, John Jr (Angel), Amanda, Shannon, Zachary (Henrryk), Dennis (Tiffany), Teisha (Jason), Samantha, Joey, Danny (Jeanette), Stephanie (Ronda), Kendra, Evan, and Savannah. Great-grandchildren, Nathan, Garrett, Ava, Peyton, Kaleb, Riley, Braelynn, Tiyana, Tayia, Vilecia, Julian, and Sophia. Brothers, Wesley (Marie) Maine, Walter (Barb) Maine and Michael (Judy) Maine. Brother-in-law, Ronnie Maeys, and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her infant son, George, grandson, Michael Nelson, brother, Matthew Maine, two sisters, Mary (Ray) Yates and Rose (Neil) Kline.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, April 10 from 4-6pm at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home 203 Second Ave, Frankfort, NY. Funeral services will be private for the family.
Helen’s family would like to thank Dr. V. Sharma for the care and compassion shown throughout the years and Elroy Moore at St. Luke’s Home and Rehab for the special care and attention he gave her while she was there.
Remembrances in Helen’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
