Mr. Edward Lachut
Burlington Flats - Herkimer - Mr. Edward Lachut, 96, of 160 Angel Hill Rd., formerly of 209 S. Bellinger St., Herkimer, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 in St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with his family by his side.
He was born in New York Mills on March 11, 1916, the son of the late Albert and Susan Kupiec Lachut and he attended New York Mills schools. He served with the US Navy and was Honorably Discharged on May 11, 1939. He was at one time married to Emily Chwalek in New York Mills. Emily passed away in 1962. Edward was later married to Edith Grace Golon in 1972 in Cooperstown. Edward was employed as a Welder for the Portland Navy Yard and later by the Brooklyn Naval Yard during WWII. He was most recently employed as a welder for Chicago Pneumatic, Utica from 1946 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of New Life Church and the Herkimer Assembly of God.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Edith Lachut; one daughter, Barbara LaBrake of FL; one son and daughter in law, Robert and Christine Lachut of Star Lake; two step-daughters, Gloria Daniels of Dryden and Catherine Crist of Burlington Flats; one brother, Edwin Lachut of Utica; his grandchildren, Aaron, Megan and Ian LaBrake and Robert and Emily Lachut; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Mackenzie LaBrake and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will be held at the convenience of his family with burial in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish National Cemetery in New Hartford. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one of Ed's favorite charities, Smile Train PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231.
His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer.
