ATribute To My Dad's Life
It has been one week since my Dad left us, and moved on into his afterglow.....
He left us with a beautiful sunset, perfectly fitting with his love of sunsets.
We will miss him dearly and thank all of you who have called, visited in person,
left messages on Face Book or this web page, or sent cards with condolences.
These relay volumes about the many ways he touched each and every one of us,
with the special memories we hold dear now.
We are very thankful for the years we had to share with him as our "Head of House"
in our beloved home in Berkshire, NY. He truly was a Perfect Father in every way.
Gentle, loving and kind, he always enjoyed seeing "his girls" being happy with Life.
He shared this gift with our friends, our extended family, our teachers and social
aquaintances. He always loved children and kept the child within alive all his life.
He instilled in us, and later with his granddaughter, our love of all things good and
taught us proper work ethics to obtain and keep those things dear to us. I know this
is why I have my Collies and horses to this day...I forever thank him for giving me this
unconditional gift of love and joy and companionship. He was strong willed and very
firm in his beliefs, teaching us right from wrong and yet was wise to know we would
figure out our Life's Lessons in our own time and in our own way.....and when we might
disappoint, he was always there to give loving hugs, forgive and forget and accept
us, as we were, with new words of encouragment to place us back on track.
His participation in numerous Tioga County activities showed us the values in being
connected with and being a part of an extended community we called Home.
He enjoyed many years in his retirement home on Lake Buckhorn in Temple, GA
and I was blessed for another 15 years of only living minutes away, sharing endless
days together. When one would come for a visit, you were always welcomed with a
big hug, a heartfelt greeting and a pleasure ride in his gulf cart to look for Eagles fishing
at the lake. It was here that his talent in oil painting really developed and he truly
received personal joy in selecting and giving his paintings to family and friends.
His many beautiful gifts are part of his proud legacy.
As many of you know, in his later years, he faced numerous health issues and
disease processes, yet he did not let these define him in any way. He often told
his doctors when they read his medical records, they must have him confused with
someone else! Right up to the end, despite the news he had been told, he believed
in his mind, that he could do all that he wanted to do.
He made it back to NY, determined my Mom would be safely secured in their new
Pine Grove Rad home. He was very thankful to our immediate familyand to cousins
Bruce, Vanlon and Mike, for helping with the move and road trip. He was glad to see
everyone who came to visit them and welcome them back home.
He loved telling jokes....I think it softened the sadness he felt and it made him feel
better to share a laugh in a light hearted way, to restore a smile to the face he was
looking at.....he loved life and he loved his family! We all are grateful to the Hospice
team of caregivers, both in GA NY, as they provided a flawless transition of dedicated
care and support.
Grieve we will and be comforted we are, by the love we all shared with him and the beautiful memories we hold dear to our hearts. It is perfectly fitting that he will be laid to rest overlooking Seneca Lake....
With each beautiful sunset that fades, I will think of him, sitting at an easel with his
paint brush in utter bliss, mixing colors, placing them on a blank canvas that immediately
comes to life....
And when my time comes, to travel on alone, I'll look for him to turn his head, smile
and say, "Hi Lu, Welcome Home"!

Dear Aunt Joan, LuAnn & Judi,
I am so sad to hear about Uncle Joe's passing. He was such a sweet and loving man. I know that some of my foundest childhood memories are from our times at the lake. Amy and I loved coming over to your cottage and spending time with all of you and Joe. I just want you to know that I love all of you and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
