Frankfort - Mr. Rosario A. "Russ" Russitano, 90, of 607 Reese Rd. passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Canastota on October 14, 1921, the son of the late Antonio and Gaetana Cesario Russitano. He attended Canastota schools and graduated from Canastota High School. He served with the US Navy during World War II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns and the Asiatic and Pacific Campaigns and was Honorably Discharged on November 21, 1945. Russ was married to Marie De Rollo in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Rosario was a Service Man for Univac in both the Ilion & Utica Plants until his retirement in 1983. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a Life Member of the American Legion Post #845, Frankfort. He was an avid gardener and was always in his garden at his home. He loved to fish and especially enjoyed bass fishing on Oneida Lake.
Rosario is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons and one daughter in law, Daryl Russitano and Robert and Patricia Russitano, all of Frankfort; two brothers and one sister in law, Anthony and Roccine Russitano and Peter Russitano, all of Canastota; four grandchildren, Kelley Russitano, Kristin Russitano, Dana and her husband, Mark Sojda and Rachel Russitano; four great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Taylor, CJ and Summer Skye; his in laws, Sid and Lena De Rollo of Frankfort and LaVerne Strong of Canastota; friend and fishing buddy, Jack Giambrone; all his poker buddies and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Russitano and Dominick Russitano; his sister, Ann Strong and his long-time friend and fishing buddy, Bob Stevens.
His funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday afternoon from 4-7 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the American Legion will meet Thursday at 6:15 pm at the funeral home for services.
Russ' family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Nurses and staff of Allen Calder Wing 3rd floor and to Dr. Emile Wassel for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing.
