Herkimer - Mr. John J. Vedovati, 89, of 334 Dewey Ave., passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 in Valley Health Services with his family by his side. He was born in Herkimer on April 22, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Antoinette Vedovati and he attended Herkimer schools. John served with the US Army in the Pacific Theater with the 2461ST Quartermaster Truck Company and was Honorably Discharged on January 9, 1946 with the rank of Tech 5. He was at one time married to Angelina Ciociola, she passed away on May 3, 1991. On January 28, 1992, he was united in marriage to Alice Colorito Aiello in Lakeland, FL. John was employed with Univac, later Burrows Paper Corp. and lastly as a Machinist for Chicago Pneumatic, Utica for many years. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post #168, St. Johnsville. John is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Vedovati; his step daughter, Antonia "Toni" Reiter of Cannon Falls, MN; one granddaughter, Christine Carpenter; one sister, Minnie Wezalis of Herkimer; his in laws, Eleanor and Angelo Battisti of St. Johnsville and Mary Jane and John Scialdone of Herkimer; his nephews and niece, Margaret Riesel, Sam Costanza, William Wezalis, Robert Wezalis and Richard Wezalis and their families; their close friends, Mr. And Mrs. Warren Miller and family and several cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Annette Carpenter and one brother, Nunzio Vedovati. His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 10:00 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 - 9: 30 am at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. John's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Little Falls Hospital and Valley Health Services and Dr Liu for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
