Mohawk - Mrs. Mayme Licari, 79, of 842 St. Rt. 5S passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born in German Flatts on June 30, 1932, the daughter of the late Peter and Lucy Nicastro DeGristina. She attended Mohawk schools and graduated from Mohawk High School with the class of 1950. She was married to Samuel Licari on October 28, 1956 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Mayme was employed in several local grocery stores throughout the area. She began her career at the A & P and was also employed with Loblaws, Victory Markets, Aiello's Market and lastly for Cut Rate, Herkimer. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. Mayme will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her family was the most important part of her life. Her gift of gab and her humor is what made people love her most. Mayme is survived by her beloved husband, Samuel Licari; one daughter and son in law, Donna and Anthony Castellano of Ft. Herkimer; one son, Samuel Licari, Jr. and his fiancé, Stacey Thompson of Herkimer; two sisters, Florence DeGristina and Lucille DeGristina of Ft. Herkimer; one brother, Carl DeGristina of Ft. Herkimer; her cherished grandchildren, Samantha and her husband, Aaron Manikas, Jesse Licari, Bianca Castellano and Michael Castellano; two great grandchildren, Collin Manikas and Lucy Manikas; her in laws, Janice DeGristina, Phyllis and Vito Costanza, Anthony Licari and Lucy Licari and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Natale DeGristina on September 24, 2011. Her funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 11:00 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 8-10:30 in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Mayme's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her by her "girls" Tonya, Sharleen, Brandy, Kim, Becky and Melissa. They would also like to extend their thanks to Hospice & Palliative Care, especially to her nurse, Cheryl and caregivers, Bonnie and Georgia for the compassion shown to her during her final days. She was later emplyed by Doufold. Mayme will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her family was the most important part of her life.
