Frankfort - Mr. Carlton "Sonny" Brown, 85, of 305 Third Ave. passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in E. Frankfort on December 7, 1930, the son of the late Carlton Scoville and Marion Foreman Brown and he attended Ilion schools. He served with the US Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on March 12, 1953 and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was married to Doris Krick on December 27, 1952 in Frankfort United Methodist Church. Sonny was employed by Univac, Utica Plant and later by Remington Arms, Ilion, until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Frankfort United Methodist Church and St. Francis Di Paolo Society, V.F.W Post #502, Frankfort - Ilion and was an Exempt member of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department. Sonny loved his family most of all and showed his love to his extended Third Ave. Family. He was an avid Frankfort-Schuyler School sports fan and participated in the Pop Warner program for many years. He loved camping, fishing, bowling and acquired a love for golf.
Carlton is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Brown; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Alana Brown of Frankfort; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh and Allen Irons of Coppell, TX, Linda and Peter Fumarola and Missy and James Ferdula, all of Frankfort; eight grandchildren, Allison and her husband, Kalon Rice, Anthony Fumarola, Peter Fumarola, Nicholas Fumarola, Richard Sweet-Ferdula, Mercedes Sweet-Ferdula; Troy Brown and Nathan Brown; one great granddaughter, Kayleigh Rice; his in laws, Richard and Dorothy Krick of Dolgeville, Larry Brown of GA, Lucy Reina of NC and Linda Krick of SC and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson, Allen Irons III; one sister, Janet Brown, his in laws, Donald Krick, Muriel and Frank Reina and Raymond Krick.
His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in Frankfort United Methodist Church, Acme Rd., Frankfort, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be in Oak View Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 16 from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort. Members of the VFW will meet Wednesday evening at 6:45 and the St. Francis Society at 7:15 at the funeral home for services.
Contributions in Sonny's memory may be made to Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Sonny's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Ambulance crew from the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department and the nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing.
