Frankfort - Mrs. Fanny J. Nicolette, 99, the Matriarch of the Caiola family, formerly of Southside Rd. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 5, 2011 in Mohawk Valley Health Care Center. She had the loving support of her family by her side.
She was born in Ilion on March 14, 1912, the daughter of the late James and Cecilia Damico Caiola. She attended East Frankfort schools and graduated from the Utica School of Beauty Culture. Fanny was married to Angelo Nicolette on September 2, 1930 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Mr. Nicolette passed away on October 9, 1975. Mrs. Nicolette was employed as an Assembler for Remington Rand, Ilion for many years until her retirement after 23 years of service. Following Fanny's retirement, she was a self-employed hairdresser on Main Street in Frankfort and for the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member it's Altar Rosary Society. She was also a former member of the Sacred Heart Club, a member and past president of the Addolorata Society, the American Legion Post #845 Aux., the Columbianna Society and a former member of the MVGH Guild Christian Mothers Club. Fanny was a strong willed woman who never spoke ill of anyone. She was a classy lady and gentle by nature. Fanny was compassionate, a great listener and gave guidance to those who asked for it. She loved the NY Yankees, meeting with friends for lunches, playing cards and wearing her fashionable hats.
Fanny is survived by three brothers and two sisters in law, Sam Caiola of Frankfort, Joseph and Rachel Caiola of Little Falls and Charles and Angie Caiola of Frankfort; three sisters, Florence Caiola and Joan Murphy both of Frankfort and Cecilia Morton of Ilion; her sister in law, Tina Caiola of Frankfort; special nieces, Doris Amento and Joanne Oyer and a special cousin, Beatrice Heafield. Although Fanny was never blessed with her own children, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and nineteen Godchildren all of whom loved and respected her. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Ruffalo and Rose Piazza and one brother, Peter Caiola as well as her in laws, Ray Morton, Sam Piazza, Richard Murphy and Lillian Caiola.
Her funeral will be held Monday, August 08, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the V.Rev. Anthony Barratt and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fanny's memory may be made to Addolorata Society, 235 First Ave., Frankfort, NY 13340 or to a charity of ones choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Fanny's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the MVHCC for all who offered love and care to their sister, especially Damon, Maureen, Katrina, Tracey, Cindy, Samantha, "both Mikes" and the entire staff of the 4th floor.
