Obituary of Anthony J. Colonna

Herkimer - Mr. Anthony J. Colonna, 88, of 230 William St. passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Anthony was born in Herkimer on November 21, 1922, the son of the late John B. and Pasqualina Lisanti Colonna and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater with the 574th Motor Ambulance Co. and was Honorably Discharged on December 21, 1945. He was married to Agatha Kovac on November 16, 1974 in Phoenix, AZ. Mrs. Colonna passed away on September 17, 1979. Mr. Colonna was employed by Luke Air Force Base and in General Service, Phoenix, AZ and later in the Maintenance Department for the US Postal Service, Phoenix, AZ for many years until his retirement on April 7, 1982. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of T.R. George Italian American Veterans Post of Herkimer, the VFW and the DAV, both of Phoenix, AZ. Anthony is survived by two sisters and one brother in law, Rose Marie Picente and Donna and Peter DeMarco, all of Utica; his sister in law, Jean Colonna of Herkimer; his nieces and nephews, Cathy and Gary Dumka, Anne Marie Lombard, Anthony and Eleanor Picente, Marc and Regina DeMarco, John DeMarco, Thomas and Debbie Colonna and Diana Laymon and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel Colonna in 1927, twin Brother, Bernard "Billy" Colonna in 1998 and James Colonna in 2005. His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 9:00 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Johnson City. Calling hours will Friday from 5-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
