Herkimer - Mr. Joseph Rinko, 85, of 230 E. Smith St., passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in his home.
Joseph was born in Herkimer on May 20, 1926, the son of the late Michael and Anna Kovalchic Hrinko. He attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School. Joe served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theater and was Honorably Discharged on August 5, 1946 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was married to Helen Jackson on November 27, 1948 in St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer. Mr. Rinko worked as a Retail Carpet Contractor for Hage Carpets, New Hartford for many years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church and a former member of the Herkimer Masonic Lodge.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Rinko; four sons and one daughter in law, Joseph Rinko, Jr. of Utica, Mark and Rebecca Rinko of Hampstead, NC, George Rinko of Houston, TX and Richard Rinko of Hackensack, NJ; one daughter and son in law, Darlene and Richard Cancelino of Herkimer; seven grandchildren, Donald Grogan and his wife, Amber, Richard Cancelino, Chad and his wife, Shannon Rinko, Bianca Rinko-Bollen, Kendra Rinko, Nicole Rinko and Justin Galde-Rinko; seven great grandchildren, Samantha Grogan, Kayla Grogan, Hayden Holland, Kimber Rinko Bentley Rinko, Kyle Nall and Jeremiah Nall; two brothers and sisters in law, John and Jean Rinko of Saratoga Springs and Paul and Mary Kate Rinko of Utica and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Huckabone and her two children, Laura and Warren on May 31, 1984, three brothers, Anthony Rinko, George Rinko and Michael Rinko, Jr. as well as one sister and brother in law, Mary and Henry Sokolowski.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer and at 10:00 in S.S. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church with V Rev. John Udics, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Friday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home with Father Udics officiating.
Joe's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice for the wonderful care shown to him during his illness and passing. They would also like to thank their neighbors, Colleen and Dottie DeMars for all the things they did for Joe during his final days.
