Obituary of Frances M. Spina

Frankfort - Mrs. Frances M. Spina, 93, formerly of S. Litchfield St., passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 in the Masonic Care Community. She was born in Utica on March 10, 1918, the daughter of the late Santo and Antoinette Gentile and she attended Utica schools. She was married to Anthony Spina on April 15, 1939 in St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel, Utica. Mr. Spina passed away on July 20, 1988. Mrs. Spina was employed as a Floor Lady at Sturdy Togs Children's Clothing for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Her love of family, honesty, compassion, good humor, grace and a warm smile will always be remembered. Frances is survived by her beloved sons and daughters in law, John and Nancy Spina of Frankfort and Anthony "Butch" and Janet Spina of Deerfield; her grandchildren, Lori and her husband, Mike Schultz of Marcy, Linda and her husband, John Kulesa of Valrico, FL, John "Bub" Spina and his wife, Karla of Frankfort, Jane and her husband, Jake Haas of Mechanicsburg, PA, Mike Spina and his wife, Sherry of Ilion, Michele and her husband, Sean Lizama of South Riding, VA, Anthony Spina and his wife, Jennifer of Ilion, Frank Spina and his wife, Andrea of Whitesboro; seventeen great grandchildren; her in laws, Mary and Lee Marcantonio of Utica and Frank and Thelma Spina of Frankfort; her special cousin, Paul Maphia and his wife Rosemary of Utica and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers; Salvatore Gentile, Frank Gentile, Fred Gentile and Anthony Gentile; two sisters, Carmella De Carlo and Mary Gentile, and her in laws, Paul Spina, John Spina, Joseph Spina and Nina Spina. Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 11:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the funeral home for services. Frances' family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Masonic Care Facility for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her during her stay and passing. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frances' memory may be made to the Masonic Care Facility. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
