Ilion - Mr. Francis J. Bucky De John, 72, of 140 Rockwell Dr passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, FL.
He was born in Ilion on October 20, 1938, the son of the late Joseph and Grace Cinquino De John. He attended Ilion schools and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of 1956. Following his schooling he served in the US Air Force. Bucky was married to Cecilia Gillette on March 26, 1960 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort a blessed union of 51 years. He was at one time employed By General Electric, Utica, later as a Mail Carrier at the Frankfort Post Office, a Village of Frankfort Police Officer and lastly as the Chief of Police for the Town of Frankfort for many years.He was a Communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. Bucky was a very active firefighter and was a member of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department and served as Assistant Chief and the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Corps and served as Captain, St. Francis Di Paolo Society, Ilion Moose Lodge #1010, Ilion Elks BPOE Lodge #1444, Ilion Marine Corps League and the Young At Heart Senior Citizens.
Bucky is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia De John; one son, Joseph De John of Frankfort & his companion, Corey Fellone of Richfield Springs; one daughter & son in law, Jacqueline & Scott Kelly of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Joseph De John, Jessica De John, Anthony Walsh, Zachary De John, Celia Rose De John and Chloe De John; two brothers & sisters in law, James Chip & Brenda De John and Richard & Debra De John all of Ilion; his brother in law, Joseph Gillette of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Skip De John.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:00 from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will meet Sunday afternoon at 4:15, member of the St. Francis Society at 6:30 and members of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department at 7:00 at the funeral home for services.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Corps, 158 S. Litchfield St., Frankfort, NY 13340. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
