Herkimer - Mr. Peter Kowalczik, 90, of 104 N. Washington St., passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in Bassett Health Care.
Peter was born in Newark, NJ on April 2, 1920, the son of the late Konstantin and Zenowia Kowalczik. He attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1938. Peter served with the US Army during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on November 17, 1944 with the rank of Tech 5. He was married to Julia Brelinsky on May 10, 1947 in Oneonta. Mr. Kowalczik was employed as a Technician for Remington Rand and later Univac in both the Ilion and Utica Plants until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Herkimer Masonic Lodge and the Depression Boys.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Kowalczik; one son and daughter in law, Peter and Cheryl Kowalczik of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, Jeffrey and his wife, Megan Kowalczik of Herndon, VA and Sr. Airman Philip Kowalczik serving with the US Air Force, Hawaii; one brother and sister in law, Joseph and Jean Kowalczik of E. Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Ronny Lee Kowalczik on June 28, 1976, three brothers, Michael Kowalczik in 1998, John Kowalczik in 1983 and William Kowalczik in 1929 and one sister, Mary Pasachnik in 2005.
His funeral will be held Saturday evening at 6:00pm in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer with the Pastor Ann Zimmerman, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Spring interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be Saturday from 4-6pm at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
