Herkimer - Mr. Leo Felix Rycharski, 90, of 1014 Steuben Hill Rd. passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the Folts Home.
He was born in New York City on January 14, 1920, the son of the late Felix and Helen Falatyn Rycharski. He attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1938. Leo served with the US Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was Honorably Discharged on September 17, 1945. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained on December 26, 1943. Leo was married to Irene M. Luzak on February 7, 1947 in St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Vincent Nowak. Mrs. Rycharski passed away on August 2, 2008. Mr. Rycharski was Co-owner and Operator of Valley Beer Co, Herkimer until his retirement in 1988. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4915, Marine Corps League and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Leo is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara Dwyer of New Paltz; his niece and her husband, Kathleen and Michael Nasypany and family and several cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Aileen Pryor on November 28, 1964.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the VFW will meet Sunday evening at 6:00 and the Herkimer Elks at 6:30 at the funeral home for services.
