Dear Danny & Tommy: I have been in touch recently with Cousin Karen & she mentioned your mother's passing. I extend to you both & your families my sincere sympathy. I know how much you both loved your Mother. I, too, have very fond memories of you all coming out to visit us in Bayport, going to the beach, playing baseball in the street; as well as when we visited with you in Brooklyn. And all those family picnics we used to have -- wonderful memories. How I loved your Dad, too. He was a great guy. Aunt Winnie was a wonderful woman and a true lady. I know, too, how much you all will miss her. But as Cousin Pat said in her message above, she is content & happy in heaven with Nana Sullivan, Aunt Gen, Uncle Al, Aunt Helen, Uncle Freddie, Uncle Eddie, Aunt Catherine, my brother,Danny, & all the others who preceded her. God Bless You Both - My Prayers are with you. Love, Cousin Kathy

Today would have been my Moma's 83rd birthday. She loved getting flowers from myself and her god daughter Chris Kelly every birthday. Also, my brother or his wife Terresa always visted her on her birthday at St. Joeephs. She never forgot my birthday or my son tommy's birthday. She loved my autistic son very much. He and I miss her love everyday.

Winnie's funeral Mass was yesterday, Dec. 29th at 10:30, preceded by a one-hour visitation and viewing at the St. Joseph's Nursing Home chapel.
Family and friends who attended were myself, Teresa, her mother Bernice Weiss, in-laws David and Priscilla Edick, and long-time family friend Bill Lunny, accompanied by his sons Tommy and William. In addition, some twenty or more St. Joseph's residents, and several Carmelite sisters were in attendance as well as Jackie Buck, Mom's favorite aide, who lovingly cared for her for nearly seven years. The service was beautifully conducted by Father David Sambor, who knew Mom very well and added many personal remembrances. Teresa and I had the honor of covering the casket with the funeral pall. I got through two readings that were beautiful tributes to motherhood and faith, and Teresa and I presented the gifts at the Offertory. One of the most poignant moments occurred after the Communion. The organist played "Silent Night", and sang the first verse, while contniuing to play. Wanda, a blind resident who was a neighbor of Mom's, continued right along all by herself with the second verse!
It was beautiful.
The services were tastefully and professionally managed by Vincent Iocovozzi, who personally made this difficult time for me possible to handle. I am very grateful. We now look to Spring, when a burial ceremony will take place at a date and time to be announced. I really hope that many can attend the ceremony and barbeque to follow. My mother loved barbeques, and she would like everyone to enjoy the memories.

Our condolences for the Sullivan family's loss. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I only knew Mrs. Sullivan through her son Dan and if a mother's caring and love are evidenced by a son's dedication to his mother and generosity of heart, then Mrs. Sullivan was very special indeed.

Memories of my mother in law whom I called Mom will always warm my thoughts. Coming from a foreign country, she welcomed me warmly and taught me a lot about my new country's ways. She is a very religious woman, which is probably why we connect easily. She is a strong mother and woman and unafraid to let her opinion be known. I remember when she taught my Tommy "so big" and I was so amazed with his enthusiasm (unknowing to us at that point, he is autistic) to her. Just like Peter and Daniel, Tommy always treasures the trip to see Nana. When we broke to her the news that our second baby will be a January baby girl, she was so thrilled. I'm pretty sure that she prayed she'll be born on her birthday as when we called to greet her "Happy Birthday" she asked where her gift was (referring to the baby's birth). Maryanne came the day after her birthday. Mom, thanks for everything, we loved you and you will be greatly missed.

I will always remember my Nana as a caring, intelligent, funny, warm, welcoming third parent. I was very fortunate to have her with me into my adulthood. As a child, her house in Breezy Point, Queens was a second home where I always felt safe and loved. Although Breezy Point is a distant memory, it is one that she held onto and cherished until the end. May she again find her house in Breezy Point somehow, and may she be happy there.

I would like you all to know that my mother held on stubbornly and bravely on that Friday night until her grandchildren arrived. Even though she had not spoken for days, when the boys appeared she made many attempts to speak which came across as sighs. It was clear after that that she was ready to go, and that is exactly what happened. Her tenacity will stay with me for the rest of my days.
The love and affection of the staff at St. Joseph's for Mom is overwhelmingly evident. They are truly her second family, and they feel the loss as keenly as we do.

Dear Dan and Tom
"By their fruits ye shall know them." I did not know Wini, so much as I knew her two sons. All I can say is she must have done something right in life, to have brought up these two fine men.
I guess she just wanted to be home for Christmas. When you think about it, Christmas Eve sounds like a perfect day to enter heaven.
