Obituary of James F. Sgroi

Frankfort - Mr. James F. Sgroi, 71, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Frankfort on October 31, 1938, the son of the late Anthony and Angeline Purpura Sgroi. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort Schuyler High School with the class of 1957
Jim served with the US Army as a Military Police Officer as a Canine Handler and was Honorably Discharged on December 10, 1967. He was married to Vivian Spine on January 5, 1984 in St. Mary's Church. Mrs. Sgroi passed away on May 10, 2009. Mr. Sgroi was a Truck Driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking, Syracuse, NY for many years and was later employed by Burrows, Little Falls as a driver. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department and was a Past Chief and a member the Men's Auxiliary of the VFW Post 502, the American Legion Post 229, Utica and the Teamsters. He served as a Frankfort Police Officer and a Village of Frankfort Trustee for many years.
James is survived by his two beloved daughters, Lisa Balzano of Utica and Michelle Balzano of Baldwinsville; two sisters, Carmella Micciche of Fontana, CA and Josephine Mezza of Ilion; his beloved canine, Noah and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six brothers, Joseph Loiacano, George Loiacano, Frank Loiacano, PFC Paul Sgroi US Army KIA WWll, Sam Sgroi and Vito Sgroi.
His funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 2:00 PM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 11:30-1:30 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
