Herkimer - Pani Maria Newmerzyckyj, 83, of 309 Moore Ave passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Village of Byshiv, Region of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine on November 15, 1926, the son of the late Semen and Ewdokija Maczkewicz Sawczuk and she attended schools there. She was married to Mykola Newmerzyckyj on April 30, 1947 in Germany. V Rev Fr Newmerzyckyj passed away on October 28, 2006. Pani Newmerzyckyj was employed by Dunlop, Utica and later for Univac, Utica Plant. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a member of it's Sisterhood. She was a proud survivor of the man made famine in Ukraine from 1931 through 1933.
Maria is survived by her beloved family, Mychail & Helen Newmerzyckyj of Clifton, NJ, Vera Newmerzyckyj of Herkimer, Mykola & His Wife, Oksana Newmerzyckyj of Goodrich, MI, Anna Newmerzyckyj of Herkimer and Wolodymyr Newmerzyckyj of Oxford, MA; her cherished grandchildren, Samantha Newmerzyckyj, Wolodymyr Newmerzyckyj and Victoria Newmerzyckyj and several cousins.
Her funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in St. Andrew Memorial Church, S Boundbrook, NJ with the Archbishop Antony officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3-6 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer. Parastas will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 with the V Rev Ivan Semko, officiating.
