I didn't know her very well, but my daughter had her for a first grade teacher and absolutely loved her. She touched my daughters life and so many others. All teachers should be like she was. I am truly at a loss for words! I was just asking Kathy a couple of weeks ago how Melissa was doing!
Brian,
You have my deepest sympathies for your loss. Please know that there are many praying for strength and guidance for you that you have never even met.
Mickey,
I had the great pleasure of meeting your daughters and wife at Herkimer Elementary School, as she was my grandson teacher. He had a wonderful year, full of gentle guidance and patience. She was able help her students learn while having fun at the same time. I remember speaking with your family after the Christmas program. They wanted to hear about you when you were younger. I told them that I wouldn't tattle on you because I had already embarrassed you enough while we were in school!
Your family has my sincerest sympathies and prayers to help you all through the toughest test that our Lord will ever give you.
Thank you and God bless you Melissa...

Dear Brian and family members,
We were so sad to hear of Missy's passing. So many people had been following her through her sickness and have shared in the pain and suffering for both her and you. Brian, we would like to thank you for all you did during this difficult time for last year's modified soccer team. You never missed a game or practice. You are deidicated to everything in your life. We never had the pleasure of meeting Missy personally, but will one day meet and walk with her in heaven, as you will too. The telegram printed a WONDERFUL article about her. She was loved by so many...Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her says she was an Angel here on earth. She is in the comfort of God's arms now, and she and will be a guardian angel to so many children here on earth. Our sincere condolences go out to you, and you will remain in our thoughs and prayers forever.

Dear Brian and families of Brian and Missy,
My son Brandon had Missy for a teacher at Herkimer. She was one of the most giving, down to earth, loving, caring, intelligent teachers I have seen. Her smile was always present at school whenever I saw her. No matter what situation I ever saw Missy deal with, she always had a positive attitude for the outcome. She just had a special way with the kids to get through to them academically and emotionally as well as had a good relationship with the parents. My son was truly blessed to have Missy for a teacher. Her presence in my son's life made such a positive impact in my sons life and helped send him in the right direction to be successful in his years in school. My thoughts and prayers go out to Brian, Brian and Missy's families, friends, and all staff at Herkimer Elementary and High School.

She had the incredible knack of making us all feel better about ourselves, that we were capable of achieving great things, and with her around, that often was possible. I will so deeply miss the wonderful friendship that she gave to me and will always cherish my memories of her. My first recollection of Missy was a young reporter at the Evening Telegram and her exploits as a great athlete in soccer, basketball and softball. Then years later as the sports editor of the Telegram I had the pleasure to get to know Missy better as JV girls basketball and softball coach. The thing that stood out to me was Missy's passion for the game and competitiveness she showed when either coaching or playing. That changed as soon as the game was over as she showed a compassion for people and a warm friendliness that made you want to be around her. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Richvalsky family and Missy's husband Brian, who just recently became my son's modified football coach. Missy was a wonderful person and will be dearly missed by all those who's life she touched in such a positive way.

Mrs. Lasowski (we knew her for years as Miss Richvalsky)was an exceptional teacher, coach and human being. My daughter Briana Shoen was one of her students and she was my daughter Katie Brooks' basketball coach. They adored her for so many reasons; Her uncanny ability to relate to her students and keep them interested in their studies. She encouraged them to do their best and told them they could do and be anything they wanted; they just had to believe in themselves. She was funny and compassionate and truly cared for her students, friends and family.
Why God takes one so young is a mystery to all of us, but I believe that she is a guardian angel watching over all of us. She will forever be missed and loved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband and family as well as the teachers, staff and students who knew her and loved her. She has truly earned her spot in Heaven.
