I was saddened by the passing of Julius. My family had so much admiration and respect for him. Both of our family's go back to the early days in Frankfort. As a young boy I remember my mother saying Julius is coming over. That was a pretty big deal for me. Our prayers are with your family in this most difficult time.

It can be difficult to pinpoint life-changing influences or career-determining experiences. However, we often have very vivid recollections of our favorite teachers. I believe that I must have been among Mr. Perillo's first class of fourth graders at Laurel St. School in Rome, NY. That he was my first male elementary teacher, and came as a refreshing relief from my immediate year, deeply etched him in memory. Though I do not remember the precise lessons he taught at the chalkboard in front of our classroom, I do remember his kindness, his cheerfulness, his handsome and well-dressed presentation, all of which must have planted a seed for the secondary social sciences teacher I would become. I held Mr. Perillo as a personal and professional standard, inspiring me to achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA in my Master's studies curriculum and teaching degree earned in France and Thailand, and my sixteen years as an International Baccalaureate instructor in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. To be sure, Mr. Perillo touched many lives; but he touched this one with special significance.

Mr Perillo was my elementary teacher at Laurel St. He was the most phenomenal teacher I ever had. Many many years later he still remembered me among the countless students he affected during his career. A finer man you won't find and a true gentleman!! I will never forget the positive influence he had on me.
GOD Bless and R.I.P Mr Perillo

Dearest Perillo family,
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Julius. Kindly accept our sympathy. We have the fondest of memories of our lives on Frankfort Street and the evenings spent on our patios. Rosie, Angie, Julius and Oscar breaking bread and sharing laughs, never to be forgotten.
When I became the Assistant Superintendent in Oneida, Julius was proud to share the fact that I was his Godson and passed the word that I had his blessing. He was greatly admired and respected throughout the region.
Julius is one of the finest men I have ever known. A role model for all, so caring and dedicated to his faith, family and profession.
We are sorry we cannot attend his mass as we are currently in Florida. Our thoughts and prayers are with you .

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of this wonderful man. Mr. Perillo was my sixth grade teacher at Laurel Street Elementary School. I remember being so nervous about having a "man teacher" - I grew up in a home with only my mother. Mr. Perillo was not only a wonderful teacher, but he showed me that men can be kind and gentle, firm without yelling - I guess you could say he was the first gentleman that I knew. I grew up to work in the Rome school district for him many years later before my husband and I moved to Oswego. He was a gift to many of us.

Sending my condolences to the family....
I was one of his many students from Columbus School (73-79). He was very special to me. As a kid I was always a little hyper and getting into little mischievous things. My dad would talk to Mr. Perillo and wonder if this was going to last. Mr. Perillo would tell him that everything was going to work out just fine. He took care of me with a little love and discipline that set me up for years to come. It wasn't just me that he took care of but the whole school. Our class of 79 was the last elementary school class that he was principal at before he went on to become assistant superintendent and eventually superintendent of the Rome City School District. I think I can speak for all of my classmates and say that we were all very very fortunate to grow up in the times that we did and have such a caring man as Mr. Perillo. Other than my parents he was the next person of authority that was critical in shaping my foundation.
As I told him whenever I saw him or spoke to him on the phone, THANK YOU for helping to shape young minds and help propel them forward. He will never ever be forgotten. I am who I am today because of my parents, my teachers and Mr. Perillo.
Love
Greg Turner
