Mohawk- Mr. Frank J. Cushman Mohawk - Mr. Frank J. Cushman, 89, of Bushnell St. passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Frankfort on January 2, 1921, the son of the late Joseph and Rosa Fiduccia Cushman. He attended Mohawk schools until he enlisted in the United States Army. On June 23, 2001, Frank was honored with his Diploma from Ilion High School. He was employed with Univac, Ilion where he had 26 years of dedicated service. He served with the United States Army during World War II with Company C 610 Tank Destroyer Battalion in Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Normandy. He was Honorably Discharged on December 11, 1945. Frank was married to Mary Loiacano on January 11, 1947 in St. Mary's Church with Father Edward Hogan officiating. Mr. Cushman was employed as a Stock Clerk for Univac, Ilion with 26 years of dedicated service and later for Union Fork and Hoe Co., Frankfort until his retirement in 1983. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk and a member of the American Legion Post #25, Mohawk. He loved the outdoors including deer hunting and going fishing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his family and his home which he himself built for his adoring wife, Mary with whom he shared 63 loving years. Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Cushman; one daughter and son in law, RoseMarie and James Light of Fayetteville; one son and daughter in law, Joseph and Janice Cushman of Baldwinsville; his cherished grandchildren, Alecia Light of New York City, Derek Light of Syracuse, Marisa and her husband, Josh Verni of Boston, Kyle Cushman and Kimberly Cushman both of Baldwinsville; two sisters, Carmella Scanio of Utica and Mary Miller of Rome; his in laws, Catherine Cushman Gilman, Sam Loiacano and Joseph Loiacano all of Ilion, Thomas and Amelia Loiacano of Frankfort, Beatrice and Joseph Tocco of Ilion, Mayme and Joseph Bello of New Hartford and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by ten brothers, Daniel Cushman, Joseph Cushman, Anthony Cushman, John Cushman, PFC Ross Cushman KIA WWII, Sandy Cushman, Charles Cushman, Samuel Cushman, Peter Nofrio Cushman and James Cushman as well as two sisters, Concetta Tinervia and Rose Peterson His funeral will be held Monday at 10:15 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort and at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham and assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman. Spring interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the American Legion will meet Sunday evening at 6:30 at the funeral home for services. Frank's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses, staff and doctors of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Special Care Unit, especially Dr. Fred Talarico, Dr. Hennessey and Dr. Dulkin for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
