Little Falls - Mr. Mykola "Nick" Krywka, 90, of 612 E. Monroe St. passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in Little Falls Hospital.
He was born in Zaporizha, Ukraine on December 15, 1919, the son of the late Philip and Paraska Chkoda Krywka and he attended schools in the Ukraine. Mykola served with the Allied forces during WWII against Germany and was captured and spent the remaining war in a German POW Camp. He was married to Alexandra Humeniuk on September 9, 1949 in Germany. The family came to the US in 1950. Nick was employed as a Mechanic for Allegro Shoes, Little Falls for many years until his retirement in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a member of the Church Board and served as president for over 25 years and served on the cemetery board of directors and as sextant for many years.
Mykola is survived by his beloved wife Alexandra Krywka, one daughter and son in law, Helen and Thomas Towler of Vineland, NJ; one son, Nicholas Krywka of Underhill, VT; his two grandchildren, Kiley Krywka and Nash Krywka; one brother,Wasyl Krywka of the Ukraine and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Andre Krywka and John Krywka.
His funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the V Rev Ivan Semko, pastor officiating. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home with Father Semko, officiating.
