Frankfort - Mr. James D. Ferguson IV, 89, of Higby Rd. passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in University Hospital in Syracuse with his loving family by his side.
James was born in Utica on June 4, 1926, the son of the late James and Frances Coram Ferguson and he attended Thomas R. Proctor School in Utica. He served in the US Navy during World War II from November 9, 1944 until his Honorable Discharge on August 6, 1946 with the rank of MOMM 3rd Class. He was married to Charlotte A. Cioch on July 8, 1961 in Ilion Methodist Church. Charlotte passed away on January 28, 2009. James was a Co-owner and Operator of JD Ferguson & Sons Farm in Frankfort for many years until his retirement in 1989, but did he ever really retire? He loved farming, spending time outdoors and tracing his roots through genealogy. He was a member of the Asbury Church and the Ilion/Olive Branch Lodge #40 F & AM Masonic Lodge.
James is survived by three sons and one daughter in law, James and Kimberly Ferguson of Frankfort, Edward Ferguson of Gates, NC and Michael Ferguson of Frankfort; three daughters and two sons in law, Shirley and Duane Bass of North Agusta, SC, Sharon and Travis Hansen of Mesa, AZ and Melinda Lambkin of Charlotte, NC; 11 beloved grandchildren, Duane Bass, Jessica Bass, James Ferguson VI, Kyle Ferguson, Keith Ferguson, Madison Lambkin, Lynsie Ferguson, Michael Ferguson II, Leigh Ferguson, Cole Hansen and Casey Hansen; 4 great-grandchildren, Chase Ferguson, Kaleah Straughn, Harper Straughn and Camden Bass; four sisters and one brother in law, Marjorie Covey, Frances Burdick and Doris Foster, all of Frankfort and Beverly and Paul Gado of Brentwood, TN and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William "Billy" Ferguson on September 19, 2014.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:00 AM in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave. Frankfort with his son in law, Rev. Duane Bass, officiating. Interment will follow in Frankfort Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 3-6 PM in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
