Frankfort - Mr. Frank G. Potenza, 80, of 133 Seventh Ave. passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the Folts Home.
He was born in Frankfort on March 21, 1929, the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Potenza and he attended Frankfort schools. He served with the US Navy during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on March 10, 1949. He was married to Elvira Gatto on April 24, 1954 in St. Mary's Church. Frank was the Owner and Operator of Urgo's Farm Supply, Frankfort for many years and was later employed as a salesman for Sharon Springs Garage. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a 50 year member of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief from 1973 to 1975, a 50 year member of the Herkimer County Fair Association where he served on the Board of Directors. He was also and member of the American Legion Post #845, Frankfort, the V.F.W Post #502, Frankfort - Ilion and St. Francis Di Paolo Society.
Frank is survived by his wife, Elvira Potenza; two daughters and one son in law, Marie and Brian Grippe of Ilion and Niki Potenza of Baldwinsville; one son and daughter in law, Frank and Gina Potenza of Baldwinsville; his grandchildren, Brian Grippe, Frank Grippe, Cassandra Grippe, Frank Potenza and Nicholas Potenza; one sister, Rosalie Nitti of Utica; one brother and sister in law, Joseph and Katie Potenza of Frankfort; his in laws, Clara Potenza, Patty Loiacano and Pat and Santina Gatto, all of Frankfort, Gloria Cioch of Mohawk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister in law, Louis and Barbara Urgo and Tony Potenza; one sister and brother in law, Angeline and Paul Pristera; one sister in law and three brothers in law, Ann and John Burrell, Paul Loiacano and Steve Cioch.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:30 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, Pastor Emeritus and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Spring interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the American Legion will meet Sunday at 5:00, the VFW at 5:15, the St. Francis Society and the Frankfort Fire Department at 5:45 at the funeral home for services. Frank's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Folts Home 3rd and 4th floor for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
