Obituary of Elizabeth Betty J. Roe

Ilion - Mrs. Elizabeth Betty J. Roe, 86, of Concord St. passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Herkimer on December 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Lucy Lasher Madigan. She attended Ilion schools and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of 1941. She was united in marriage with Robert "Bob" K. Roe on June 26, 1948 in Annunciation Church, Ilion. A blessed union of 59 years until Bob's passing on August 14, 2007. Betty was a caregiver for Catholic Charities for many years. She and her husband, Bob were also caregivers for those children of Herkimer County who would be in need of help, in their family home. She was a Roman Catholic and was a parishioner of Church of The Annunciation, Ilion. Betty along with her husband raised four children, Christine, Mark, Betty and Cheryl. She is survived by three daughters and one son in law, Betty Bowman and her fiancée, Randy Stone and Christine Roe, both of Ilion, and Cheryl and her husband Constantine Arcella of Garden City, Long Island; her three cherished grandchildren, Charles E. Roberts III of Chicago, Il., Jaclyn Roberts of Utica and Francis E. Bowman IV of Ilion; her in laws, Jean Madigan of Ilion and Frank & Stella Roe of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Mohawk Valley area. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Roe in 1990 and by her brother, Paul Madigan. Her funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's memory may be made to Catholic Charities of Herkimer County, 61 West St, Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the vestibule of the church on Thursday afternoon. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J.
