Obituary of Domenica D'Alessandro

Astoria - Mrs. Domenica D'Alessandro, 88, of 2227 27th St passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 in the home of her son and daughter in law, Vito & Vincenza D'Alessandro of Schuyler, NY with her loving family by her side. She was born in Grumo Appula, Bari, Italy on September 24, 1920, the daughter of the late Vito and Angela Bizzoco D'Alessandro and she attended schools there. She was united in marriage to Nicola D'Alessandro on April 22, 1944 in Bari, Italy. She came to the United States in April of 1958. Mr. D'Alessandro passed away on December 22, 1997. Mr. & Mrs. D'Alessandro were dedicated to each other and their family during their 54 years together. Domenica was the matriarch of her family and devoted herself to her husband and their three sons whom she loved so deeply. Her home was the center of all celebrations, where she would prepare bountiful meals and her well known baked goods. Domenica was truly a Christian woman and was a devout communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Her faith was the foundation of her life. Mrs. D'Alessandro is survived her three beloved sons and two daughters in law, John & Betty D'Alessandro of East Fishkill, NY, Vito & Vincenza D'Alessandro of Schuyler, NY and Frank D'Alessandro of Garden City, LI; two sisters, Sister Vita Domenica and Antoinette Medurcio both of Italy; one brother, Leonardo D'Alessandro of Italy; her cherished grandchildren, Diane D'Alessandro, Nick & his wife, Judy D'Alessandro, Angela & her husband, Vincent La Rosa, Dawn & her husband, Chris Lasher, Maria & her husband, Matt Arcuri, Danielle D'Alessandro, Frank D'Alessandro and Elizabeth & her husband, Alessandro Gargani; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Luiggi D'Alessandro, Pasquale D'Alessandro and Domenico D'Alessandro. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 8:45 from the Joseph Farenga & Sons Funeral Home, 3808 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria and at 9:45 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Entombment will be in Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Joseph Farenga & Sons Funeral Home.
