Herkimer - Mr. Michael M. Ambrosewicz, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Folts Home, Herkimer with his loving family by his side. He was born in Taberg the son of the late Paul F. and Mary Butryn Ambrosewicz. He was raised and educated in Verona. Mike served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with the 104th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squad and was Honorably Discharged on November 21, 1945 at Fort Dix, NJ with the rank of Sergeant. He married Palma Pacini on September 2, 1961 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. They had a loving union of 47 years. Mr. Ambrosewicz was the Owner and Operator of the Texaco Service Station on Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford until his retirement in 1957. He was known as "Honest Mike" on Seneca Turnpike. He was at one time employed at Remington Arms. Mike was a communicant of Sts Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439, the American Legion Post #25, Mohawk, and the Polish Home, Rome. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Palma Ambrosewicz; one sister, Patricia Wankel of Whitesboro; one brother and sister in law, Paul V. & Rose Trica Ambroze of Utica; his in-laws, Ottavia Maida of MD, Yolanda Tripple of Frankfort, Mary Pacini of Utica, Joseph Pacini of Herkimer, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph Ambrosewicz, Frank Ambrose, Philip Ambrosewicz, Peter Ambrose, his in-laws, Mary & Sam Sgroi, Margaret Pacini, Sam Pacini, Dino Pacini, Earl Wankel and Dominick Tripple. His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 am in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Anthony Ligato. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the American Legion will meet Tuesday evening at 6 pm and the Elks at 6:30 pm at the funeral home for services. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and the Folts Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mike during his stay and passing.
