Clinton-N.Utica-Frankfort Mr. William V. Petrilli, 96, of Lutheran Home, formerly of 2nd Ave Frankfort and N. Utica, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. He was born in Utica on July 17, 1912, the son of the late Alexandro and the late Maria Idacola Petrilli. He attended Utica schools and graduated from Utica Free Academy with the class of 1931. He later attended the University of Alabama, Hartwick College and in 1951, graduated from SUNY Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Utica. Bill entered the US Army Air Corps in 1944 and was stationed at the Rome Air Service Command where he trained to become an instructor in General Airborne Radio and Instruction. As a Technical Sergeant in the Army Signal Corps he taught Radio Communications and Repair in the Philippine Islands. He was married to Grace Iocovozzi on November 20, 1952 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. The couple enjoyed 52 years together until Grace's passing on October 18, 2003. Bill was employed by Chicago Pneumatic serving in many capacities until his retirement in 1976 and was a thirty five year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. Bill was always active in community and youth service organizations throughout his life. He was a member and past president of the Frankfort Civic Club, Past Commander of the Italian American Legion #5, American Legion Post #229, N. Utica, DAV, Past President of the Madonna Del'Libera Society of Utica which was an Italian Cultural Society co-founded by his father in the 1920's. During his youth, Bill was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. This experience led him to become a true environmentalist and outdoorsman. He always said "it takes years for a tree to mature but only five minutes to cut it down." As a proponent of education, he not only instilled the importance of higher education to his own children and grandchildren, but to all young people he encountered. William is survived by one son & daughter in law, William & Laura Petrilli and his grandchildren, Matthew Petrilli and Bianca Petrilli all of Chadwicks; one daughter, Mary L. Petrilli of East Schodack, NY and several in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Bessie DeMarco. His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 am in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, S. Frankfort St., Frankfort where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus assisted by Deacon James Bowers. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full Military Honors. In keeping with Bill's wishes there will be no public calling hours. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort.
