Obituary of Vincent A. Giangregorio

Mohawk - Mr. Vincent A. Giangregorio Mohawk - Mr. Vincent A. Giangregorio, 80, of Mohawk passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Vincent was born in Howe Caves, New York on September 13, 1928, the son of the late Damian and Louise Cinquino Giangregorio. He moved to Herkimer as a child and was educated in Herkimer Schools. He served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. On June 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Joanne (Jennie) Eramo in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. They were married for fifty-eight years until Jennie's passing on July 17, 2006. Vincent was employed for many years with Sperry Univac rising to the position of Production Supervisor. He was later employed with Remington Arms Co. He was involved in his community as a long-time member and past president of Mohawk Kiwanis, a member of the American Legion and an active parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Vincent is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Mary Lou and Richard Greene of Mohawk, and Theresa and Anthony Casale of Cooperstown. He was the beloved "Poppo" of his grandchildren, Vincent and Amy Casale of Mohawk, Peter and Janine Casale of Little Falls, New Jersey, A.J. Casale of Washington D.C. and Johanna Greene of Mohawk; and to his great-grandchildren, P.J., Vincenza and Ava Casale. Vincent is also survived by three sisters; Rose Evola of Rome, Jemma Cancelino of Herkimer, and Lucy Conte of Little Falls; his in-laws, Philomena Moretti of Herkimer, Anthony and Frances Eramo of Arizona, and Joseph and Martha Eramo of Florida, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas Giangregorio and a sister, Bessie Maneen. A Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14, at 11 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Main St., Mohawk, by the Reverend Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. The family will receive callers at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, on Monday, October 13 from 5-8 pm. The family wishes to thank the staff of Valley Health Service for the excellent care given to Vince and to Sister Mary Jo Tallman for her many kindnesses. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Health Services or to Blessed Sacrament Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
