Mr. Paul J. Hinds Mt. View - Mr. Paul J. Hinds, age 83 of Mt. View, NY passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the home of his daughter, with his family by his side. He was born in Malone, NY on March 16, 1925, the son of the late Charles Leo Hinds and Teresa A. Sullivan Hinds. He attended Malone schools and graduated from Franklin Academy with the class of 1943. Following high school, Paul volunteered for the draft and entered the US Army on July 27, 1943. He served with the Amphibian Engineers, Army Specialized Training Program and the 347th Infantry, 87th Division. He saw combat with the 3rd Army in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was Honorably Discharged on April 7, 1946. Following his Honorable Discharge, he attended and graduated from Colorado School of Mines with the class of 1950. Paul was united in marriage to Lucille Ann Ryan on May 30, 1949 in St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay, N.Y. After his graduation from Mines in 1950, he was employed by Bethlehem Steel Co, Bethlehem, PA from September 1950 until December of 1951 at which time he accepted employment with Aluminum Company of America at Massena. In 1974, he received his MS degree from Clarkson University. He transferred from Massena to Sao Luis, Maranhoa, Brazil as a Process Control Superintendent on October 1, 1983. They lived in Olad'agua for three years while the ALUMAR Refinery and Smelter were brought into production there. He retired from ALCOA on November 1, 1988 and spent much of his time at Mt View, NY plus several winters in Florida and Arizona accompanied by his wife, Lucille. The Hinds family resided in Massena for many years and spent summers at their camp in the Adirondack Mountains on Mt View Lake. While living in Massena for 32 years, Paul was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish and served on its Sacred Heart School Board, Parish Council as well as trustee of the Parish. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 219, Malone, life member of the VFW Post, Massena, the DAV, the 87th Infantry Division and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lucille Ann Ryan Hinds of Mt. View; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Ann and Joseph McCoy of Frankfort, NY, Mary K. and Douglas Noordsy of Canaan, NH and Nancy T. and Tom Flanagan of Hingham, MA; nine grandchildren, Kari Thauvette and her husband, Max Arroyo, Ryan Thauvette, Christine Thauvette, Thomas Flanagan, Charlotte Noordsy, Sean Flanagan, Jack Noordsy, Sarah McCoy and Stephen McCoy; two great grandsons, Jacob Arroyo and Ben Arroyo and several cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Geraldine Ann Hinds who died in Michigan of diptheria in December of 1922. His wake will be held Thursday, 4-7pm at the Chateaugay Funeral Home, 36 Church St., Chateaugay. His funeral will be held Friday morning at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Malone.
